Electrical Estimator

Overview
An established electrical contractor, known for its high-quality work across commercial, industrial, and public lighting projects, is seeking an Electrical Estimator to join their growing team.
The company delivers turnkey electrical solutions, from design and installation through to testing, commissioning, and maintenance, with a reputation for technical precision, safety, and reliability across Ireland.
This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse, high-value projects while supporting the commercial and tendering process from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to prepare detailed and accurate electrical estimates.
- Develop Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and material/labour take-offs for electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, public lighting, and control systems.
- Source, compare, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
- Prepare cost summaries, pricing breakdowns, and supporting documentation for tender submissions.
- Conduct site visits or pre-tender meetings to assess project requirements, risks, and access conditions.
- Liaise with engineers, project managers, and clients to clarify design intent and resolve technical queries.
- Maintain an up-to-date library of cost data, supplier rates, and project benchmarks.
- Provide handover documentation to project teams following successful bids to ensure smooth project mobilisation.
- Participate in post-tender reviews and contribute to continual improvement in estimating processes.
Candidate Profile
- 3–5 years’ experience in electrical estimating, cost management, or similar roles within the electrical contracting sector.
- Strong knowledge of power distribution, containment, switchgear, lighting, and control systems.
- Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, single-line diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficient in BOQ preparation, take-offs, and cost modelling using Excel or estimating software.
- Demonstrated commercial awareness — capable of balancing competitiveness with accuracy and compliance.
- Strong communication and presentation skills for dealing with both clients and internal stakeholders.
- Understanding of Irish electrical regulations, tendering procedures, and health & safety requirements.
- Full clean driver’s licence for occasional site visits.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on public lighting, industrial, or ATEX-rated installations.
- Familiarity with modular or prefabricated electrical systems.
- Competence in estimating tools such as CostX, Trimble, or similar software.
- Exposure to mechanical or multi-disciplinary tender coordination.
