College Teacher – Agricultural Mechanisation
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and knowledgeable College Teacher specialising in Agricultural Mechanisation to join a progressive agricultural education environment.
This permanent role will involve the development and delivery of high-quality theoretical and practical instruction across a range of full-time and part-time agricultural programmes. The successful candidate will have strong practical experience with agricultural machinery and the ability to instruct learners in the safe and effective operation of large-scale farm machinery.
A panel may be formed to fill similar vacancies arising over a period of up to 12 months.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver classroom lectures in agricultural machinery, mechanisation and related agricultural modules.
- Deliver practical skills instruction and assess learners, with a particular focus on agricultural machinery.
- Provide tutorials and ongoing support to students throughout their programmes.
- Prepare assessment materials in line with relevant QQI and educational guidelines.
- Correct, record and verify assessments and provide students with appropriate feedback on their progress.
- Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety and welfare during classroom and practical activities.
- Contribute to curriculum development and the preparation of teaching and learning materials.
- Support the implementation and evaluation of new and revised education programmes, including apprenticeship training.
- Assist with quality assurance processes, including internal verification.
- Support the management of machinery resources and encourage the adoption of current technologies and precision farming practices.
- Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in open days, career events, educational exhibitions and other promotional activities.
- Keep up to date with developments in agricultural mechanisation, machinery technology and teaching practices through ongoing professional development.
- Contribute to business planning, risk management and good governance processes.
- Work outside normal hours when required.
Essential Requirements
- Level 8 Degree, as recognised on the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent, in Agricultural Mechanisation, Agricultural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience operating large-scale farm machinery across arable and livestock sectors.
- Ability to instruct learners in the operation of large-scale agricultural machinery.
- Strong practical knowledge of agriculture and the agricultural machinery sector.
- Knowledge of advances in agricultural technology and precision farming.
- Strong IT and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate leadership when required.
- A proactive approach with a strong focus on quality and service.
- Must meet and continue to meet the legal requirements to drive a car unaccompanied on Irish public roads.
Desirable Experience
Experience in machinery practical skills instruction, farm business planning, machinery or fleet investment and management, and QQI quality assurance procedures would be an advantage. A relevant machinery and/or fabrication qualification is also desirable.
Applicants may be required to demonstrate their competency in operating and instructing learners in the use of large-scale farm machinery as part of the selection process.
