Hartley People Recruitment is seeking a Design Technician on behalf of a well-established civil and structural engineering consultancy based in Kilkenny.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technician with experience in civil engineering design who enjoys producing accurate technical drawings while supporting engineers through the design and delivery of infrastructure and development projects.

The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation of road, drainage and site development designs, using industry-standard software including AutoCAD, Site3D and MicroDrainage. The role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial and infrastructure projects while developing technical expertise within a collaborative consultancy environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings and technical layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Produce road and drainage designs for residential, commercial and infrastructure developments.
  • Develop and amend drainage designs using MicroDrainage.
  • Prepare site design models using Site3D.
  • Assist engineers with the preparation of planning, tender and construction drawing packages.
  • Interpret engineering mark-ups and incorporate design revisions accurately.
  • Ensure drawings comply with current Irish design standards, regulations and local authority requirements.
  • Assist with the design of road layouts, junctions, levels and surface water drainage systems.
  • Coordinate drawing information with engineers, architects and other project stakeholders.
  • Maintain drawing registers, document control and revision histories.
  • Support the delivery of multiple projects while maintaining high standards of accuracy and presentation.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Civil Engineering Technician or Design Technician within an engineering consultancy.
  • Strong AutoCAD experience is essential.
  • Practical experience using MicroDrainage.
  • Experience using Site3D for civil engineering design.
  • Good understanding of road and drainage design principles.
  • Knowledge of Irish design standards and regulations relating to roads, drainage and residential developments.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Experience producing designs for residential housing developments.
  • Familiarity with local authority approval processes.
  • Exposure to BIM or Revit would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Knowledge of earthworks, levels and site development design.
