Hartley People Recruitment are seeking a Site Engineer to join a busy construction team delivering large-scale residential developments in Waterford City.
This is a hands-on, site-based role where you will work closely with the Site Manager, Contracts Manager, Design Team and Quantity Surveying Team. You will take responsibility for setting out, engineering, quality control and technical coordination across assigned areas of the development.
The position offers excellent exposure to major residential projects and a clear pathway towards Senior Engineer and Site Management roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out setting out for housing plots, foundations, roads, drainage, utilities and external works using GPS and Total Station equipment.
- Review drawings, levels, dimensions and quantities to ensure accuracy before works commence.
- Coordinate architectural, structural, civil and services drawings, identifying potential issues or discrepancies.
- Supervise and coordinate groundworks, civil engineering contractors and other subcontractors.
- Ensure construction activities are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and required standards.
- Maintain accurate engineering and quality records, including inspections, surveys, as-built information and photographic records.
- Implement and maintain project Quality Assurance procedures and ensure high standards of workmanship.
- Raise RFIs and work with consultants and site management to resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Support the Site Manager with short-term planning, subcontractor coordination and delivery of the construction programme.
- Monitor progress, manpower and productivity across assigned areas.
- Assist with BCAR, testing, certification, snagging and handover requirements.
- Maintain accurate site documentation and report progress, risks and technical issues to the management team.
- Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety across all site activities.
Experience & Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3+ years’ experience as a Site Engineer, ideally within residential construction.
- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Strong setting-out experience using GPS and Total Station equipment.
- Experience working across housing, groundworks, drainage, roads, utilities and external works.
- Strong ability to read, interpret and coordinate construction drawings.
- Good knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures, Irish Building Regulations and construction standards.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate subcontractors and take ownership of assigned areas.
- Competency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and relevant construction management systems.
- Full clean driving licence.

We are looking for a proactive, technically capable and organised Site Engineer who enjoys taking ownership and solving problems.
You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced site environment, coordinating multiple stakeholders and identifying technical or construction issues before they impact programme or quality.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively as part of the wider project team are essential.
