Hartley People Recruitment in partnership with our client are hiring for a Process and Commercialisation Manager in Wexford.
You act as the specialist in process technology, process engineering and science within the technical function. You support the pilot plant team as new products and processes move from concept through to commercial scale, and you give the process team the technical backup they need to keep manufacturing running well.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the pilot plant team in the development, scale up and commercialisation of new products and processes
- Work with global teams to deliver group wide product and productivity projects
- Provide expert support and backup to the process team to monitor, control and troubleshoot manufacturing processes, including mentoring associates
- Design, develop, run and review experiments to deliver new products and processes using lab, pilot or commercial scale equipment
- Plan and carry out the scale up of new products and processes, or transfer technology to commercial manufacture, including validation plans that keep the work safe, workable and sustainable
- Use validation, in process monitoring and trending to identify opportunities to improve process performance and productivity, and propose alternative processing techniques to lift quality, yield and output
- Monitor manufacturing by evaluating laboratory results and in process instrumentation to determine the disposition of material and processes
- Make sure laboratory methods and standards are applied correctly for visual, physical, chemical and microbiological assessment, and evaluate the results to determine the right disposition of materials and processes
- Review scientific and other literature to keep your specialist knowledge current and identify future opportunities in technology, process or product
- Attend relevant technology and process seminars, exhibitions and conferences
- Drive a zero defect culture through strict adherence to SOPs, maintaining safety, GMP and environmental standards
- Provide technical support for contingency planning and supply point shifts
- Keep communication clear and consistent with your team, the wider department, senior management and external parties, in particular R&D
- Work with others to deliver shared goals across the client’s networked operating model
- Support company programmes and culture across the site
- Safeguard and protect all company information and property
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Process Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry (PhD level is desirable)
- More than 5 years of work experience, including time spent undertaking PhD studies, operating equipment in the flavour and fragrance, chemical or bio/pharmaceutical industry, ideally focused on liquid to liquid operations, two phase processing, solvents and flammable liquids
- Knowledge and experience of process technologies including distillation, chromatography, membrane filtration and liquid extraction
- A strong foundation in organic chemistry, including knowledge and experience of analytical methods such as GC, GCMS and HPLC
- Experience of product development techniques, scale up and support of new products
- Strong experience in the design, development and manipulation of pilot plant and plant equipment
- Experience of instrumentation, control and automation is desirable
- Knowledge of the organic chemistry of essential oils and other flavour components
- Understanding of reaction pathways and degradation chemistry of essential oils and flavour components is desirable
- Knowledge of quality and food safety standards, ISO, FSSC and FDA regulations
- Knowledge of modelling and simulation for batch processes is desirable
- Ability to build strong working relationships with site and corporate management, R&D and process development specialists, vendors, and regulatory and compliance bodies
- Ability to interpret complex scientific principles, practices and processes
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills
- Strong written and spoken communication skills, especially presentation skills
- Computer literate and confident using technical software. A high level of data literacy and a strong foundation in statistical methods is desirable
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Willingness to travel for around 10% of your time in this role
