Maintenance Manager

An established, high-volume manufacturing business is seeking an experienced and driven Maintenance Manager to lead its site engineering and maintenance operations. This is a senior role suited to a hands-on leader with strong technical, people-management, and project delivery experience, ideally gained within food production or similar regulated manufacturing environments.
The successful candidate will take ownership of maintenance performance across the site, ensuring equipment reliability, effective cost management, and high safety standards. You will be responsible for developing a skilled, motivated engineering team while driving continuous improvement in plant efficiency and operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver site maintenance objectives in line with wider business targets and KPIs.
- Manage and control maintenance budgets, ensuring expenditure complies with internal policies and approval processes.
- Provide strong day-to-day leadership to the engineering team, supporting fault-finding, breakdown resolution, and critical repairs.
- Plan, prioritise, and schedule maintenance activities to minimise downtime and disruption to production.
- Balance preventative maintenance programmes with responsive support for unplanned equipment failures.
- Allocate internal resources and external contractors effectively based on capability, availability, and operational needs.
- Oversee contractor relationships, ensuring service levels, performance standards, and value for money are achieved.
- Develop and implement reliability-focused maintenance strategies to improve equipment uptime and process stability.
- Support training, engagement, and development initiatives to strengthen technical capability and team performance.
- Manage site utilities including power, water, compressed air, and refrigeration systems, ensuring reliable supply.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering, cost efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety, quality, and GMP standards within all maintenance activities.
- Undertake additional duties as required in line with business requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in a senior maintenance or engineering leadership role, preferably in food or high-volume manufacturing.
- Recognised trade qualification or third-level qualification in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering discipline.
- Proven experience leading and developing sizeable maintenance or engineering teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects from planning through to completion.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across departments.
- Track record of motivating, coaching, and mentoring technical teams.
- Proactive, organised, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of IT literacy and confidence working with maintenance and reporting systems.
